WOMEN'S RESOURCE CENTRE (EDUCATION)
VISION:
Promote gender equality and empowerment of women enabling them to live with dignity and purpose in an environment free from violence and discrimination.
MISSION STATEMENT:
The mission seeks to promote the holistic development of women through multidimensional, inter-disciplinary and inter-sectoral approaches thus mobilizing the social energy necessary to combat gender based violence in contemporary society.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
Objective 1: To increase women's capacity to prevent and respond to Gender Based Violence (GBV) thus affirming their self esteem, self confidence and dignity.
Activities:
- Economic empowerment through SHGs, exposure visits, building of skills such as computer literacy, tailoring, self defence, workshops and trainings in legal aid.
Objective 2: To ensure safety and security for working women by providing hostel facilities.
Activities:
- Providing a forum for problem situations faced at the workplaces, streets, families etc. and making them critically conscious about the present status of women and motivating them to take effective actions regarding the same.
Objective 3: To contribute to women empowerment and reduction of Gender inequalities as well as Gender-based violence through life skill education in various educational institutions, NGOs, Corporate sector , religious institutions and local communities.
Activities:
- Life skill education focusing on attitudinal change in gender relations, sensitize public on types and extent of gender based violence and its consequences and preventive measures to curb the same.
- Strengthening school guidance and counselling unit.
- Encouraging schools to develop code of conduct and mechanisms to handle complaints of sexual harassment.
- Train and sensitize the school community including parent committee, teachers.
Objective 4: To empower women with information on available service providers for response to gender based violence.
Activities:
- Linking women with the service providers such as, help lines, NGOS, shelter homes, hospitals, counseling units, police stations, legal aid units.
Objective 5: To bring men into the process of changing community norms about GBV, sexuality, and power.
Activities:
- Changing gender myths rooted in cultures and traditions which reinforce patriarchal mind-set. Gender socialization in the family as the nucleus of society. Involving men to eliminate gender based violence at workplace and public places.
Objective 6: Bringing about awareness leading to responsible social behavior among the public through campaigns at all levels.
Activities:
- School awareness campaigns, campaign for the elimination of violence against women and girls, workshops for youth and creation of a cadre of volunteers.
Objective 7: Develop/disseminate anti-Gender Based Violence promotional materials
Activities:
- Creating a resource lab containing books journals, articles, audio visual material, as well as material for public distribution.
